history

The station was founded by the Canadian radio pioneer Keith Rogers on August 15, 1924 under the name 10AS. In 1925 10AS became CFCY on the frequency 960 kHz, which was changed in 1931 to 580 kHz and in 1933 to 630 kHz. The station became known as "The Friendly Voice of the Maritime". Due to the central location of the transmitter, the AM signal reached parts of Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and New England and many other coastal regions. Two years after the death of Keith Rogers, his family granted his wish and in 1956 founded the television station CFCY-TV on the island. On March 24, 2006, the station began broadcasting on 95.1FM.
