Canadian Forces Detachment Mountain View (CFD Mountain View) is an airfield of the Canadian Forces , south of Belleville in the province of Ontario , Canada . The airfield is located near and is also managed by the Canadian base CFB Trenton .

history

The airfield opened on June 23, 1941 and was home to the 6th Bombing and Gunnery School (6 B&GS), one of eleven schools that opened nationwide under the Commonwealth Air Training Plan during World War II . The airfield was home to various types of aircraft, including: Anson , Battle , Lysander , Bristol Bolingbroke and Northrop Nomad. The airfield was later renamed RCAF Station Mountain View when the 6 B&GS merged into a Ground Instruction School and the Air Armament School at RCAF Station Trenton.

CFD has two Federal Heritage Listed hangars :

  • Building 77 / Hangar 1, monument protection since 2003
  • Building 82 / Hangar 6, listed building since 2003´

Today the base is used as a material store and as an overhaul workshop for various aircraft of the Canadian armed forces, and belongs to the Aerospace and Telecommunications Engineering Support Squadron (ATESS) , which is headquartered at CFB Trenton. In September 2000, the 8th Squadron opened a skydiving center now known as The Canadian Forces Land Advanced Warfare Center . The skydiving school is also located on the premises.

In 2006 a new runway was built to provide training opportunities with the CC-130 Hercules transport aircraft . A CC-177 Globemaster III landed on the airfield in 2009 without any problems. In 2012 a new exercise and training center, the Central Region Cadet Hangar , was opened.
