CFR Turnu Severin was a Romanian football club from Turnu Severin (today Drobeta Turnu Severin ). The club won the Romanian Football Cup in 1943 .

history

CFR Turnu Severin was founded in 1928. The club first took part in national game operations in the 1936/37 season in the newly created Divizia C , but withdrew from Group West in April 1937. Since Divizia C was only held sporadically in the 1930s, the required qualification for Divizia B was not achieved until 1939.

After a midfield placement, the club's most successful period began in the following season. In the 1940/41 season CFR took first place in Divizia B and rose for the first time in the highest Romanian league, Divizia A (today League 1 ). Due to the outbreak of the Second World War , the club could no longer take advantage of this qualification because the official league operation was interrupted. In the unofficial championship of the 1941/42 season, the club finished second behind Juventus Bucharest . The greatest success in the club's history followed a year later: With a 4-0 win against Sportul Studențesc , the club won the Romanian Football Cup in 1943 .

When gaming operations were resumed after the end of the war in 1946, CFR was not classified in Divizia A, but in Divizia B, contrary to the qualifications previously achieved. There the club fought relegation before he had to leave the league in 1949. After renaming to Locomotiva Turnu Severin in the early 1950s, the company was promoted again in the 1951 season. Locomotiva was able to hold on to Divizia B for several years with changeable success, he relegated the club again at the end of the 1956 season.

After a renewed renaming in its old name CFR Turnu Severin in 1957, the club played for a year in Divizia C. In 1958 it was dissolved and replaced by FC Drobeta Turnu Severin , which in turn was dissolved itself in July 2011.
