The four ships of the CFV 600 series were jointly ordered on June 22, 1990 by various German shipping companies for construction at the Neptun shipyard. At the end of 1991 / beginning of 1992, Deutsche Maschinen- und Schiffbau AG (DMS), entrusted with the overall coordination, transferred the construction of the four ships to the Volkswerft in order to save them from collapse. At the Volkswerft, which was to be the last East German shipyard to be privatized, there were numerous trawlers built for the USSR, which had since collapsed . In this period of upheaval after German reunification, no further orders would have been in sight.
details
The ships are designed as multi-purpose dry cargo ships. They are mainly used in container transport. The total capacity is 655 TEU, the number of connections for refrigerated containers is relatively high for ships of this size. The ships in the series were retrofitted with two cranes each with 40 tons of lifting capacity.
The ships are powered by an MAN four-stroke diesel engine of the type 8 L 48/60 manufactured in Augsburg with an output of around 6640 kW. The engine acts on the shaft generator and the controllable pitch propeller via a gearbox . The maximum speed is 17 knots. There are also three auxiliary diesels and an emergency diesel generator available. The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
Individual chambers are available to accommodate the crew.
