CHEP ( acronym for Commonwealth Handling Equipment Pool ) is a logistics company that specializes in the collection of pallets and containers. The company was founded in 1945 by the Australian Commonwealth government and is now part of the Australian-British service provider Brambles . When the American forces withdrew from Australia after World War II , they left countless US Navy blue pallets in the country. The Australian government originally tried to collect these pallets itself. This task was later handed over to Brambles, and CHEP has been part of the Brambles Group ever since.

Group structure

CHEP is headquartered in Sydney , Australia, with European headquarters in Weybridge , UK. Chep Deutschland GmbH, founded in 1985, is based in Cologne . The company is divided into three regions globally. CHEP is a global provider of supply chain solutions for consumer goods, fresh food, beverages, and the manufacturing and retail sectors with customers in over 60 countries. In Germany, CHEP is known for the blue CHEP quarter pallet.

More than 400 million blue pallets and load carriers are rented out. CHEP generates around 75% percent of Brambles' total sales.
