The CIAC T-90 Calima is a trainer aircraft produced by the Colombian manufacturer CIAC SA and the American Lancair International Inc.

history

The Colombian Air Force wanted to replace its Beechcraft T-34 and Cessna T-41 trainer aircraft, which had been in service for more than 40 years. For this reason, a joint venture was concluded between the Colombian CIAC and Lancair International Inc. , according to which Lancair supplied aircraft kits and these are assembled at CIAC. CIAC was involved in the development of the machine originally called Lancair Synergie 3 .

construction

The T-90 Calima is designed as a further development of the Lancair Legacy FG as a low-wing aircraft and has a non-retractable nose wheel landing gear. The machine is made almost entirely of composite materials. The one-piece hood that can be opened to the front enables access to the cockpit. It is powered by a Lycoming IO-390 -A1A6 four-cylinder boxer engine with 154 kW. The machine is continuously developed, whereby no new aircraft are built, but the existing aircraft are modified.

variants

  • T-90: First prototype and pre-series (12 aircraft), converted to the T-90C standard.
  • T-90C: Production version with improved aerodynamics, reinforced chassis and new avionics.
  • T-90D: Production version with improved engine suspension, reinforced chassis and a stronger hydraulic brake system. The cockpit has also been revised.
