The Commission international pour la protection des eaux du Léman , just CIPEL (in German as: International Commission for Water Protection of Lake Geneva ), is a French - Swiss organization that the development of the water quality of Lake Geneva and the Rhone monitored, including their inflows. The organization is based in Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

The organization was founded in 1962 and continues to this day. It recommends measures to combat water pollution , helps to coordinate water management policy and shows the population the importance of water protection .

A permanent secretariat is located in Changins near Nyon , which coordinates all work. 75 percent of the Commission's costs are borne by Switzerland and 25 percent by France.
