CKIX-FM is an English language radio broadcaster based in St. John's , Newfoundland and Labrador , Canada . The transmitter transmits on the frequency 99.1 MHz with an output of 100,000 watts . A contemporary hit radio format is broadcast . The transmitter is operated by Newcap Radio.

history

The station began broadcasting by CHUM Limited on October 15, 1983. Initially, Country Music was broadcast under the callsign CKIX-FM and the station name "Country 99 FM". At the end of the eighties under the station name "KIX Country". Newcap took over the station and its sister station CJYO from CHUM Limited in 1989. The takeover introduced the brand name "KIXX Country". The broadcast studios moved from Duckworth Street to 208 Kenmount Road in 1991 . Today the Capital Hotel is located in the building.
