The CKEditor is a JavaScript based, free WYSIWYG - HTML editor that can be integrated into your own web applications and that supports numerous web browsers .

Details

CKEditor is implemented in JavaScript and offers interfaces to Active-FoxPro, ASP , ASP.NET , ColdFusion , Java , JavaScript, Lasso , Perl , PHP and Python on the server side . It is distributed as free software under the open source licenses GPL , LGPL and MPL as well as under the commercial Closed Distribution License (CDL). The CKEditor outputs XHTML 1.0. The CKEditor is integrated in many content management systems as an editor or can be installed as an extension, e.g. B. in WordPress, WebsiteBaker , Drupal, Joomla etc.

history

The project was launched in 2003 as FCKeditor by Frederico Caldeira Knabben, whose initials can be found in the name. Version 1.0 was released on May 25, 2003. In the English-speaking world, the character string FCK inadvertently leads to an association with the word fuck . Therefore, in August 2009 with the release of version 3.0, the name was changed from FCKeditor to CKEditor.
