The CR series SS8 ( Chinese  韶山 8 , Pinyin Shaoshan 8 ) are AC electric locomotives of the Chinese state railways with the wheel arrangement Bo'Bo ', which are intended for use in front of passenger trains . The output of the SS8 is 3600 kW. The series is based on the previous model SS5 . The locomotives were developed and built by the CSR plant in Zhuzhou . On June 24, 1998, a class SS8 locomotive broke the Chinese speed record by reaching a top speed of 240 km / h on a test track between Xuchang and Xiaoshangqiao. The locomotive used had the construction number 0001.
