Malý Čepčín (Hungarian Kiscsepcsény - until 1895 Kiscsepcsén ) is a municipality in the north-center of Slovakia with 548 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Okres Turčianske Teplice , part of the Žilinský kraj and is part of the traditional Turiec landscape .

geography

The community is located in the southwestern part of the torrent basin on the Teplica stream . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 465  m nm and is five kilometers from Turčianske Teplice and 21 kilometers from Martin .

Neighboring municipalities are Bodorová in the north and east, Turčianske Teplice ( Diviaky district ) in the south, Veľký Čepčín in the west and Ivančiná in the northwest.

history

In 1872 a richly decorated grave with the remains of a Slav high-ranking nobleman with his horse was discovered on the burial mound Homôlka .

Malý Čepčín was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1254 as Kus Moys or Kysmayus , with the meaning " Little Moschotz ". The village was owned by Johann, son of Namslav, then belonged to the landed gentry from Konotopa (today Ivančiná) until 1404, later to the Csepcsényi family . In 1785 the village had 20 houses and 106 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 27 houses and 153 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.

The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, too, agriculture remained the main source of income for the population, with some residents working in the sawmill in Diviaky.

According to the 2011 census, there were 520 inhabitants in Malý Čepčín, 476 of them Slovaks and one Czech . 43 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

219 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 141 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, five residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and one resident each to the Baptists and the Apostolic Church. 88 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 65 inhabitants was not determined.
