Borcová (Hungarian Borcfalu ) is a municipality in the north-center of Slovakia with 143 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Okres Turčianske Teplice , part of the Žilinský kraj and is part of the traditional Turiec landscape .

geography

The municipality is located in the southern part of the torrent basin on a corridor terrace above the confluence of the Dolinka and Čierna voda streams . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 449  m nm and is five kilometers from Turčianske Teplice and 21 kilometers from Martin .

Neighboring municipalities are Blažovce in the north, Mošovce in the east, Bodorová in the south and Jazernica in the west.

history

Borcová was first mentioned in writing in 1302 as Borcfalva and owned by the Recske dynasty from Pravno. Later the village was owned by a certain Paul, in the 16th century of the Rakovszky family , but remained in the Pravno territory. From the 16th century, families like Zablatszky , Kelemen , Thuróczi and Nyáry owned local estates .

In 1715 there were 15 houses in the village. In 1785 the village had 22 houses and 111 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 21 houses and 152 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.

The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, too, agriculture remained the main source of income for the population.

According to the 2011 census, there were 126 residents in Borcová, including 125 Slovaks and one Czech .

47 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 46 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and seven residents to another denomination. 21 residents had no denomination and the denomination was not determined for five residents.
