Horná Štubňa ( German Oberstuben or older Neustuben , Hungarian Felsőstubnya ) is a municipality in Žilinský kraj in Slovakia . It belonged to the so-called Hauerland .
geography
The municipality is located in the south of the Turčianska kotlina , in the Turiec region , at the foot of the Kremnické vrchy Mountains . Other mountains in the area are the Great Fatra to the northeast and the Žiar to the west. Horná Štubňa is located 6 km south of Turčianske Teplice , 15 km north of Kremnica and 30 km south of Martin .
State road 65 runs through the village , at which state road 14 opens north of the municipality . The municipality has a rail connection on the Salgótarján – Zvolen – Vrútky railway and is the start / end point of the Horná Štubňa – Prievidza railway .
history
The place was founded around the year 1340 and is mentioned in 1390 as Wylehota (Nová Lehota). In the next 120 years the name changed to the current form: 1407 Newstub , 1415 Nova stuba , 1450 Newstubn , 1493 Felsewsthubna , 1502 Nová Lehota and 1505 Newsthubna . In the period 1407-1848 the place belonged to the city of Kremnitz.
Until 1945 the majority of the population was of German descent. Then they were evacuated from the community and replaced by Slovaks. Nevertheless, 5.1% of the 1606 inhabitants claimed to be a German minority in the 2001 census.
