Háj (German Häu , Hungarian Turócliget - until 1907 Háj ) is a municipality in the north-center of Slovakia with 483 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Okres Turčianske Teplice , part of the Žilinský kraj .

The community is located in the southern part of the Turzbeckens the stream Smolický brook and below the Great Fatra . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 508 m nm and is two kilometers from Turčianske Teplice and 28 kilometers from Martin .
The municipality of Háj borders on Rakša in the north and east, Čremošné in the southeast and Turčianske Teplice in the south and west (districts Dolná Štubňa , Turčianske Teplice and Diviaky).
history
In the Hallstatt period there was a burial ground in the municipality , later a settlement of the Puchau culture and a Slavic settlement from the 11th – 12th centuries. Century. The place itself was first mentioned as a shark in 1264 and derives its name from the Slavic / Slovak name for a grove . In 1340 comes Mocsko received the village from the Hungarian king, which finally belonged to the Hájsky family until 1493 and was the seat of a small estate. After the family died in 1535, after years of fighting, Háj came into the possession of the city of Kremnica . In 1496 there were ponds around the place, later a brewery. In 1828 there were 92 houses and 637 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and as carters, bricklayers and carpenters.
The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 464 people lived in Háj, of which 449 were Slovaks and one German and one Czech; one resident was of a different ethnicity. 12 residents did not provide any information. 260 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB, 111 residents the Roman Catholic Church, seven residents the Greek Catholic Church and one resident of the Reformed Church; one resident was of a different denomination. 44 residents had no denomination and 40 residents had no denomination.

Buildings
- Roman Catholic Church of Cosmas and Damian from 1454, originally in Gothic style, rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries
- Former parsonage in Baroque style from 1764, significantly rebuilt in the 20th century and today the location of the local kindergarten
- Protestant church in the baroque-classical style from the years 1819–1821
