Jasenovo (German Käserhau or Jassenhay , Hungarian Turócjeszenő - until 1907 Jaszenová ) is a municipality in the north-center of Slovakia with 122 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Okres Turčianske Teplice , part of the Žilinský kraj and is part of the traditional Turiec landscape .

The community is located on the southwestern edge of the torrent basin at the transition to the Žiar Mountains , in the Jasenica valley . The 829  m-nm high Vyšehrad mountain rises above the village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 520  m nm and is 14 kilometers from Turčianske Teplice and 29 kilometers from Martin .

Neighboring municipalities are Rudno in the north and east, Budiš in the south, Pravenec in the south-west and Nitrianske Pravno in the west.

history

In today's municipality there was a settlement of the Lausitz culture . Later, in the 9th century, there was a Moravian stronghold on Vyšehrad hill .

The present-day location was established under German law in the second half of the 14th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1495 as Kenenfeld . There was a German settlement in the past, which focused in particular on mining. Mainly copper was mined at the site. In the 16th century, the Magna via postal route ran through Jasenovo from Pressburg to Kosice .

The Slovak place name is derived from the name for ash (Slov. Sg. Jaseň ). In 1715 there were 15 households in the village, in 1720 a mill was mentioned. In the 18th and 19th centuries the village was owned by the Prónay family .

In 1785 the village had 46 houses and 336 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 38 houses and 337 inhabitants who were employed as woodcutters and farmers.

The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Even in the first Czechoslovak Republic, the traditional main sources of income remained.

According to the 2011 census, 153 people lived in Jasenovo, 148 of whom were Slovaks and one each was Polish and Czech . Three residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .

79 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 56 residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident to the Evangelical Methodist Church; three residents professed a different denomination. Ten residents had no denomination and four residents had no denomination.

Jasenovo is on the 2nd order road 519, which runs on the road from Martin to Prievidza and crosses the Vyšehradské sedlo saddle west of the built-up area .
