Jazernica (until 1927 in Slovak "Jazernica-Markovice"; in Hungarian Márkfalva - until 1907 Jezernicmarkovic ) is a municipality in the north-central part of Slovakia with 322 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Okres Turčianske Teplice , part of the Žilinský kraj and is part of the traditional Turiec landscape .

geography

The community is located in the middle of the waterfall on the Teplica stream , not far from the confluence with the Turiec . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 449  m nm and is eight kilometers from Turčianske Teplice and 18 kilometers from Martin .

Neighboring municipalities are Blažovce in the north, Borcová in the east, Bodorová in the southeast, Ivančiná in the southwest and Abramová in the west.

In today's municipal area there was an urn field of the Lausitz culture and later a Slavic settlement

Jazernica arose on a piece of land that had previously belonged to a certain Vida and was first mentioned in writing in 1361 as Zarnouchamelleky , in 1417 the name Jezerniche appears . The village belonged to a man named Tiba , the ancestor of the Jezerniczi family . In 1785 the village had 14 houses and 87 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 20 houses and 151 inhabitants who were employed as farmers.

Markovice was first mentioned in writing in 1412 as Markfalua and was then owned by the Márkfalvi family . In 1785 the village had three houses and 17 inhabitants, in 1828 there were four houses and 33 inhabitants.

The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. Even in the first Czechoslovak Republic, agriculture remained the main source of income for the population who were employed in a large estate.

According to the 2011 census, there were 297 inhabitants in Jazernica, including 286 Slovaks . 11 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

163 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 58 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, four residents to the Orthodox Church and two residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church. 58 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 12 residents was not determined.
