The locomotives 41-55 of the Compagnia Reale delle Ferrovie Sarde (CRFS) were standard gauge steam locomotives with a tender, which were assigned to group 216 after the takeover of the CRFS by the FS in 1920 .

history

The first two locomotives of the series were built by SLM in Winterthur in 1901 , while the remaining seven were built by Henschel in Kassel . As usual with the CRFS, the locomotives were given names: No. 42 was named Eleonora , the first Henschel locomotive was called Carlo Alberto . With the takeover of the CRFS by the FS, the locomotives were given the numbers 216.001-009.

technology

SLM data sheet

The wet steam - compound locomotive  had two outer cylinders on the second of the three coupled axles worked. A leading axle improved the running properties. The coupling wheel diameter of 1300 mm was not suitable for high speeds, but was sufficiently large to be able to use the locomotives in front of passenger trains, which could accelerate them to 60 km / h. The engine was a biaxial Schlepptender beige provides containing 4 tonnes of coal and 8 m³ water summed.
