CSO 1 (Composante Spatiale Optique 1) is the first of three reconnaissance satellites from the French CSO program .

It was launched into sun-synchronous orbit from the Guiana Space Center on December 19, 2018 at 16:37 UTC with a Soyuz ST-A launcher .

The three-axis stabilized satellite is equipped with a camera built by Thales Alenia Space with a resolution of 35 cm. This can take pictures day and night in a variety of modes in both the visible and the infrared range. CSO 1 was built on the basis of the AstroSat-1000 satellite bus from Airbus Defense and Space and has a planned service life of 10 years.
