List of domestic dogs

The Ca de Bou is a Spanish dog breed recognized by the FCI (No. 249, Gr. 2, Sec. 2.1) .

Origin and history

During the British occupation of Menorca (1708-1802) dog fighting was a popular sport in the port areas of the Balearic Islands . Since the Ca de Bou usually tended bulls and was used for bull biting , it was usually the champion. In bull biting, the dog's job is to drag an adult bull to the ground. After the prohibition of dog fighting and bull biting, the number of representatives of this breed sharply decreased. Breeders on the mainland saved this breed from extinction, so to speak, and showed these dogs at exhibitions.
