Cactus Young Theater

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cactus Young Theater is an intercultural theater group founded in Münster in 1992 by the actress and director Barbara Kemmler , whose work focuses on adolescents and young adults. In addition to the development of project ideas and their dramaturgical implementation, work areas also include networking and cooperation with other theater groups at home and abroad. Barbara Kemmler has been the artistic director of Cactus Young Theater since it was founded, and Alban Renz (actor and theater pedagogue ) has also been artistic director since 2005 .

Work philosophy

Cactus develops pieces together with the young people and performs them. In the development process, Cactus provides the artistic means and the professional framework to provide the young people with a suitable play area. Direction sees itself as moderation , who leads the group process on a topic and provides artistic forms and professional structures.

The production process includes working together in the rehearsal room with writing workshops , discussions, body and dance training, as well as improvisation and acting lessons . The results of this work are then presented in the form of theatrical performances under professional conditions.

Interculturality

An important focus of Cactus is intercultural and international work. In addition to the production of individual pieces with an intercultural focus, such as Agathas Kind (2000) or Zungen (2006), the group organized the international youth theater festival irritation and inspiration (i & i) in autumn 2004 , which the Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance honored as an exemplary project has been.

In the newly established work place - diverse culture , Cactus tries to reflect critically the possibilities and chances of intercultural youth theater work. In addition, this work place is intended to achieve a stronger network of institutions that are involved in intercultural cultural activities. In this way, interculturality on an artistic level should be better brought into public awareness.
