Caesar Rymarowicz
Caesar Rymarowicz (* 1930 in Zagórów , Poland , † 1993 in Berlin ) was a Polish-German translator.
Origin and life
Rymariwicz was born in Zagórów in 1930 as the son of a Pole and a German and grew up bilingually. Since 1948 he lived in the Soviet Zone / GDR and graduated from high school in Werneuchen in 1950 . He then studied English and Slavic Studies, first in Potsdam , then from 1951 at the HU Berlin , where he completed his diploma in 1954 with a major in Polish Studies . After two years as a lecturer at Humboldt University, he began working as a freelance translator and publishing reviewer in 1956, which he carried out until reunification .
Rymariwicz translated mainly from Polish, including many works by Stanisław Lem , but also from Italian (e.g. stories by Italo Calvino ), French and Russian. In addition to his more than 50 translations in book form, Rymarowicz also transmitted numerous short stories.
