Cahide Serap also known as Cahide Sonku (born December 27, 1919 in Yemen , Ottoman Empire , † March 18, 1981 in Istanbul , Turkey ) was a Turkish theater and film actress and director .

Cahide Serap was born in Yemen as the daughter of an Ottoman officer. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the family moved to Istanbul. At the age of 16 she made her debut as a stage actress at the "Istanbul City Theaters" ( İstanbul Şehir Tiyatroları ). In 1933 she made her film debut in the musical Söz bir, Allah bir . This was followed by many more appearances in various theatrical productions and in some Turkish film productions. In 1949 she worked as a producer, screenwriter and director in the film Fedakar ana . She was the first Turkish film director and had established herself as the first female star in Turkish film history. Furthermore, she worked in several films in various functions. In 1950 she founded her own production company, Sonku Film . Her last appearance as an actress was in 1971 in the film Mıstıkk .

Cahide Serap was married three times and each time divorced. She died childless at the age of 61 in Istanbul, where she was buried in the Zincirlikuyu cemetery.
