history

Cairndhu House was built in 1871 for John Ure , the Provost of Glasgow , miller and merchant. As an architect, William Leiper , who also designed other villas in Helensburgh, was responsible for the planning. The alterations to the economic wing carried out in 1902 were also carried out according to Leipzig's designs. Daniel Cottier was hired to design the interior . In 1956 Cairndhu House was converted into a hotel. From 1984 it housed a care facility, which probably closed in 2010. In 2012, Cairndhu House was added to the register of endangered listed buildings. However, the risk was classified as low. At the time of the inspection, the ground floor was unused and the window openings were closed with boards. Only the upper floor seemed to be in use.
