Cajal is a small impact crater in the northern part of Mare Tranquillitatis . Its round, bowl-shaped formation is located southeast of the Jansen crater, which is flooded by lava . Also to the northwest is an area of rugged ridges known as Dorsa Barlow .
The name was given by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1973. Before it was renamed, it was known as 'Jansen F'.
