Cal Pal is a medieval property in La Cortinada in the Andorran parish of Ordino .

description

The original building on the connecting road CG 3 to El Serrat is first mentioned in literature in 1435 and came from a donation from the Pal family. The building was expanded in the 16th and early 19th centuries. A special feature of Cal Pal is the white three-sided tower extension with a plastered timber framework that is unique for Andorra . The tower is described in historical literature as a dovecote and was operated as a pigeon post office in the Middle Ages . The pigeon mail was used as a means of communication between castles and monasteries.

The floor plan of the building is laid out in an L-shape, with a ground floor and two upper floors. It includes a chapel with wall paintings. The Cal Pal complex also includes the mill and the Cal Pal sawmill (Mola i serradora de Cal Pal), which are located about a hundred meters upstream opposite the church of Sant Martí de la Cortinada . The sawmill was in active operation until the 1960s.

Monument protection

Manor house and mill with sawmill are classified as protected cultural heritage and monument (Llei del patrimoni cultural d'Andorra).
