character
In 1876 the first people settled here to build a fish factory, in which fresh fish was preserved. Caleta del Sebo, as well as the entire Chinijo archipelago with four other small islands, is administered by the municipality of Teguise on Lanzarote.
There is a small fishing port here, where the ferry from Órzola on Lanzarote also docks. In the whole place there are, among other things, restaurants, supermarkets, a post office, an ATM, a doctor and a pharmacy as well as bike rentals for tourists who can reach the island via Lanzarote. About 60 children are taught in a kind of comprehensive school. At the beginning of the school year in summer 2008, the former elementary school (Centro Escolar Infantil y Primaria) was upgraded to a comprehensive school (Centro de Educacion Obligatoria). There are no paved paths or roads, but there are only individual off-road vehicles. One lives mainly from fishing and day tourists. Some apartments allow a longer stay. At the western end of the town, at Playa del Salado, there is a campsite.
