The California State Route 56 (abbreviated CA 56 ) is a state highway in the US state of California , which runs north-south direction.
The State Route begins on Interstate 5 in Carmel Valley and ends in Rancho Peñasquitos on Interstate 15 . The first plans for CA 56 were to be built further east to California State Route 67 . This was later rejected.
The CA 56 is often called the Ted Williams Freeway to pay tribute to San Diego- born baseball player Ted Williams .
