Carmen Seville
Carmen Sevilla (actually Maria del Carmen Garcia Galisteo ; born October 16, 1930 in Seville ) is a Spanish actress and singer.
life and career
The daughter of the writer José Garcia Padilla began her professional activity at the age of 13 as a ballet dancer in the dance troupe of Estrellita Castro . Five years later, the artist, who had meanwhile chosen the name of her hometown Seville as her pseudonym, was brought to the film by the director Fernando de Fuentes . Her second film " Jalisco canta en Sevilla " was a great success. She often sang copla andaluza songs in her films.
The collaboration with the singer-actor Luis Mariano , who was accompanied by Carmen Sevilla, especially in the early 1950s, developed particularly successfully . With her role as Katharina in 1955 in a version of Shakespear's "The Taming of the Shrew" she finally achieved her breakthrough. 1957 another successful film "Die Rache". Since then, they have engaged foreign directors such as the Americans John Berry , Don Siegel , Charlton Heston and Nicholas Ray , who shot in Spain .
In 1978 Carmen Sevilla withdrew from film and stayed away from the public for the next decade and a half.
