Calling Dead Red Roses was a band from Hamburg that was one of the earliest gothic rock formations in Germany.

history

The band was founded as a duo by Thomas Lücke (vocals, keyboard) and Hauke Harms (keyboard). Later Torsten Hammann (guitar) and Roland Weers (vocals, guitar) joined them. The music was often referred to as "Slow Goth", a half-speed version of the Sisters of Mercy .

In their short creative period they recorded two demo tapes and gave several concerts in Hamburg, for example in the discotheque “Kir”, in the Hamburg market hall and in the café “Schöne Aussichten”. Among other things, they played as support for bands like Twice a Man .

In late 1985, Calling Dead Red Roses split up after a farewell concert due to musical differences. The bands Girls Under Glass and Cancer Barrack then emerged from the group.

In 1991 the recordings from 1985 were remixed and released on the Darkstar ( Strange Ways ) label under the title 1985 in CD format.
