Calvaire in Bannalec

The Calvaire in Bannalec , a French commune in the Finistère department of Brittany , was built in the 17th century. The Calvaire , the only one in the municipality, stands next to the St-Mathieu chapel .

The rectangular base on which the shaft with the cross stands is reached via two steps. The two consoles below the cross, which are supported by two angels, originally carried two statues. On the front of the cross is Christ, unusually gaunt and with thin arms, and on the back the Madonna and Child.
