Bannalec ( Breton Banaleg ) is a French town with 5659 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Finistère in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the Pays de Quimperlé municipal association .
geography
Bannalec is located in the southwest of Brittany, about 80 kilometers southeast of Brest , about 30 kilometers southeast of Quimper , the seat of the sub-prefecture of the arrondissement , and 12.8 kilometers northeast of Concarneau , the capital of the canton, at an average altitude of 97 meters above the sea level . The Mairie stands at a height of 95 meters. Neighboring municipalities of Bannalec are Scaër in the north, Saint-Thurien in the northeast, Le Trévoux in the southeast and Pont-Aven in the southwest. The municipality has an area of 7751 hectares. The Isole , Bélon , Aven and their tributaries, the Ster Goz, cross the municipality.
The municipality is assigned to a type Cfb (according to Köppen and Geiger ) climate zone : warm, moderate rainy climate (C), fully humid (f), warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C (b). There is a maritime climate with a moderate summer.

Bannalec is located in the Pays des Genêts , in the land of the gorse . The community consists of several hamlets , so there are a total of six chapels. Every year on August 15th the festival of old handicrafts, the reapers , thresher , clog makers and blacksmiths is celebrated . The local heritage association, the Cercle celtique les Genêts d'or ( Celtic circle of the golden gorse bushes ) invites you to a folklore festival with a Breton night , with singing, historical costumes, dance and music with Breton instruments such as the binioù and the bombard .
In the municipality there are several testimonies of human activity from the Neolithic Age , including the Allée couverte de Kermaout, which was registered as a Monument historique in 1975 .
The Notre-Dame church is in the center of the village. It was built in the 16th century on the foundations of an 11th century building. It was entered in the supplementary directory as Monument historique in 1921 .
The Ste-Véronique chapel is located in the lieu-dit la Véronique. It was classified as a Monument historique in 1914 . Its church tower from 1605 is particularly interesting. Three of the church windows date from the 16th century.
The St-Jacques chapel still has a fragment of a leaded glass window that is dated around 1550.
The only Calvaire in the municipality is by the Saint-Mathieu chapel.

The municipality has a connection to the European route 60 ( Nantes - Brest ) and a regional train station on the Savenay – Landerneau railway line . The Lorient Bretagne Sud Airport is the nearest airport, located 27 kilometers southeast of Bannalec.

Protected Geographical Indications (IGP) for poultry (Volailles de Bretagne) , buckwheat flour (Farine de blé noir de Bretagne - Gwinizh du Breizh) and cider de Bretagne or breton apply in the municipality .
