Moëlan-sur-Mer is a French commune with 6781 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Finistère department in the Brittany region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Quimper and the canton of Moëlan-sur-Mer .
geography
The community is located about 20 kilometers northwest of Lorient and 40 kilometers southeast of Quimper on the Atlantic coast . Neighboring municipalities to Moëlan-sur-Mer are:
- Baye in the north,
- Quimperlé in the northeast,
- Clohars-Carnoët in the east and,
- Riec-sur-Bélon to the west.
The coastline of the Atlantic Ocean is on the southern edge of the municipality, the municipality capital is about four kilometers inland. The river Bélon runs along the northwestern municipal boundary and flows into the sea in an estuary at Cape Pointe de Kerhemen . Further east, the two rivers Brigneau and Merrien also flow into the Atlantic with small confluences. The coastline is mostly rocky, but in between there are also sandy beaches such as Plage de Kerfany les Pins or Plage de Trenez .

The municipality is served by the departmental roads D24 and D224 (from Riec-sur-Bélon via Moëlan to Guidel ) and by the D116 (from the Pointe de Kerhemen via Moëlan to Quimperlé ).

Attractions
In addition to a large number of finds from the Neolithic , such as menhirs , rows of stones and dolmens, there are other art treasures in the municipality:

economy
As a seaside resort, the municipality invests in tourism, and harbor facilities for boats have been set up in the confluence of the rivers. The estuary of the Bélon River is particularly known for its oyster farming .
