Cambridge Dictionary

The Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary (CALD), or Cambridge Dictionary for short , was first published in 1995, then under the title Cambridge International Dictionary of English . The publisher is Cambridge University Press , the university publisher of the University of Cambridge in England.

The traditional competitor, the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary , has been published since 1948 and contains around 185,000 keywords in its ninth edition. In contrast, there are only around 140,000 words and phrases in the CALD. Both works are designed for students whose mother tongue is not English ( non-native audience ). They are suitable for CEFR competence levels B2 to C2

Editions

The first edition, entitled Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary , was published in 2003, the second in 2005, the third in 2008 and the fourth in 2013.
