Springwood is a suburb of the city of Logan City in the local administrative area (LGA) City of Logan in the southeast of the state of Queensland in Australia . The area of ​​Springwood is approximately 6 km². It has 17 parks that cover almost 9% of the total area.

history

The indigenous people ( Aborigines ) of the language groups Yagara and Yugambeh originally inhabited the area of ​​Logan and thus Springwood as well.

The first contact of the Aborigines with Europeans took place in 1862. At this point, Captain Patrick Logan was exploring the river. He described the river as "flowing through the most beautiful piece of land he has seen". He named it "the Darling" in honor of the governor. The governor returned the compliment by renaming the river Logan in recognition of Logan's achievement. When the penal settlement in Brisbane was closed in 1841, occupiers took the land. Cedar was the first economically significant product from the area along the Logan and other rivers in the region. The first leases in the Logan area began in 1849. Immigration began to be encouraged from 1859 when Queensland was separated from New South Wales . Irish, Scottish and English settlers came first, followed by German immigrants. Springwood got its name from 614 acres of land on Rochedale Road between Underwood and Springwood Roads. The property was owned by the local tax collector William Underwood. Brigadier Sam Langford bought the property in 1932. At that time it was known as the wire paddock as it was the first gated property in the area.

It had a spring in the center of the property, hence the name Springwood.

The housing demand in the post-war period led to strong growth in the region. Urban development in Springwood boomed from the late 1960s. The establishment of the place is dated to the year 1968.

Springwood is considered "rich" among the boroughs of Logan City, while others are considered poorer and have their origins in social settlements.

Springwood is an established residential area with three elementary schools, one high school, and two major shopping centers. The Arndale Mall and the Springwood Hotel opened in 1974. The Springwood Mall was completed in 1986. The first post office opened in January 1985.
