Camelback Mountain
The Camelback Mountain is a 825 m high mountain in the field of city Phoenix , Arizona , USA. Its name comes from the striking silhouette of the mountain, seen especially from the south: it then reminds of a kneeling camel.
The mountain rises a maximum of 407 m above its immediate surroundings and is a clearly visible landmark in Phoenix and its neighboring communities. The mountain is one of the so-called Phoenix Points of Pride , a list of Phoenix's most rewarding attractions.
The 55 km long Camelback Road , which touches the mountain to the south, is a major east-west axis of the city of Phoenix and connects Scottsdale in the east with Litchfield Park in the west.
Camelback Mountain is part of the Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon Recreation Area. This is a natural area that serves as another Phoenix city park. Both the area and the mountain are very popular with walkers, hikers and joggers; the view from the peaks of the Camelback extends far over the Valley of the Sun (" Sun Valley ") of the Sonoran Desert .
There are usually preferred residential areas and golf courses in the immediate vicinity of the mountain and park.
