Camerata Zurich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Camerata Zurich is a chamber orchestra from Zurich and has 16–20 professional musicians; If necessary, the orchestra can be supplemented with additional strings and / or wind instruments at any time. The Camerata Zurich was founded in 1957 by the Swiss conductor Räto Tschupp , who was its chief conductor until his death in 2002.

The attractive composition of the concert programs, consisting of rarities and masterpieces of the classical period as well as compositions from the 20th and 21st centuries, with special consideration of the Swiss musicians, regularly ensures exciting concert evenings. The Camerata also regularly awards composition commissions. The focus is also on youth work; Testimony to this is provided, for example, by a composition competition for children and adolescents that we launched every two years.

The Camerata Zurich has played an important role in Zurich's musical life for 50 years, also because it has always dealt with novelties in its unconventional programming, be it through performances of contemporary music or through the rediscovery of little-known works by classical composers. The Camerata Zürich is jointly responsible for the creation of a modern Swiss chamber music repertoire. About 60 world premieres testify to this; numerous works are dedicated to the Camerata Zurich.

The Camerata Zurich runs its own subscription series with four concerts in the Tonhalle Zurich and their repetition in the Radio Studio Zurich. In addition, a family and an extra concert take place once a season. CD recordings, guest performances and tours round off the concert activities. The Camerata Zurich gives concerts on Saturday evenings in the Small Hall of the Tonhalle Zurich and on Sundays in the Radio Studio Zurich, which is characterized by its relaxed atmosphere.

From 2002 to 2009 Marc Kissóczy was chief conductor of the Camerata Zurich. He studied violin and conducting in Switzerland and the USA and has won several prizes at prestigious competitions. In addition to his concert activities in the classical-romantic field with all the major symphony orchestras in Switzerland and in numerous countries in Europe, Asia and North and South America, Marc Kissóczy has made a name for himself as a conductor of advanced contemporary music. He is a lecturer and professor for orchestral conducting at the Zurich University of the Arts ZHdK. Thomas Demenga has been the artistic director of the Camerata Zurich since 2011 .
