Councilor Tschupp

Räto Tschupp (born July 30, 1929 in Thusis ; † February 12, 2002 in Chur ) was a Swiss conductor .

Tschupp was best known for his commitment to Swiss composers of the 20th century. He directed over a hundred world premieres of contemporary works, many of which were dedicated to him.

In 1957 Tschupp founded the Camerata Zurich chamber orchestra , which played an important role in the creation of the modern Swiss chamber music repertoire and was directed by him until his death. As the successor to Erich Schmid , Tschupp was director of the mixed choir in Zurich from 1975 to 1996 . From 1976 to 1988 Räto Tschupp was professor at the Karlsruhe University of Music , where he taught conducting. From 1989 to 2001 Tschupp was chief conductor of the Aargau Symphony Orchestra . In the course of his career, Tschupp recorded a number of works with various orchestras and choirs for various record labels , including flute concerts by Gluck and Cimarosa , an anthology of European music after the French Revolution and works by Swiss composers such as Wladimir Vogel , Paul Müller-Zurich , Hermann Haller , Norbert Moret or Josef Haselbach .
