Camillo Pavanello

Camillo Pavanello (born October 20, 1879 in Genoa , † 1951 or 1956) was an Italian gymnast .

Camillo Pavanello was a gymnast and member of the Società Ginnastica Sampierdarenese association . He worked as a mechanic for the Ansaldo company . In 1900 he started at the Olympic Games in Paris and finished 28th in the gymnastics competition, in which over 150 athletes had started. He was the first gymnast from Italy to take part in the Olympic Games. His participation in the Olympic Games was hardly echoed in Italy, as the Italian King Umberto I was killed in an assassination attempt on the day of the competition .

The Giardini Camillo Pavanello park in the Sampierdarena district of Genovese is named after him.
