Campagne (mansion)
As Campagne (eigtl. Maison de Campagne ) in the space of the former is the city and Republic of Berne , a mansion called.
A campaign did not include any manorial rights (similar to the Tyrolean estates , which were, however, tax-exempt). In the late Middle Ages and early modern times, the families of the Bernese patriciate lived in summer or autumn houses in the warm months, some of which were used for hunting. These houses were mostly small and not very comfortable. At the end of the 17th century, the Bernese Campagne building type emerged: a house on a rectangular floor plan with a hipped roof. Forerunners are, for example, medieval rectories like in Münsingen or the Höchhäuser in Steffisburg . Occasionally, campaigns were set up instead of medieval castles, such as Blankenburg Castle or Jegenstorf Castle .
Many of these stately country houses have disappeared. Some of the remaining campaigns serve public, for example cultural purposes, such as the Elfenau campaign . Further examples are the Campagne Diemerswil , Campagne Hubelgut , Campagne Rubigen , Campagne Thalgut .
