Campione del Garda is a fraction of Tremosine sul Garda on the western side of Lake Garda in the province of Brescia in the Lombardy region .
location
Tremosine consists of 18 locations, 17 of which are located on the plateau that lies steeply above Lake Garda . Only Campione is directly on the lake and can only be reached through a tunnel or by boat.
Campione is about 20 km south of Riva del Garda on the western shore of Lake Garda.
history
In Campione del Garda in 1896, on the initiative of Giacomo Feltrinelli and Vittorio Olcese, a large cotton weaving mill with the associated workers' village was established.
The choice of the location where the factory was to be built was determined by the availability of the San Michele torrent and its waters, in addition to the available labor. Their water power was used to drive the cotton weaving machines. Under the direction of Vittorio Olcese, the first director of the cotton weaving mill, the workers' village and the welfare organization for the work and life of the workers came into being. These offered the possibility of adapting the lifestyle of the workers, who mainly came from rural areas, to the production needs of the company. In the case of Campione, this lifestyle also owed its stability to the isolation of the village, which until around 1930 was only accessible by sea.
Economy and Infrastructure
After the cotton weaving mill was closed in 1981, the area of the factory village is a much-visited place for water sports tourists.
After the site has been sold to an international company, the site is subject to extensive renovations. It is planned to transform the place in the next few years from a camping and surfing paradise largely untouched by mass tourism into a tourist center with hotels, marina and shopping centers. In the future , the main thoroughfare Gardesana Occidentale will again run at the foot of the rock face at risk of falling rocks. The town center is to be relocated after the Olcese factory has been demolished and the RV park, which has been the town's main source of income until now, is to be closed. Water sports enthusiasts will no longer be able to use the sporting possibilities of the place, which is especially known among surfers for its Ora (wind that sets in daily around 3:00 p.m.), no longer to the present day.
As of September 2016, neither large-scale construction nor investment activities can be observed in the location.
development
The property owner of the Cotonificio Olcese Veneziano / Iniziativa Olcese, part of the Olcese family group, sold the company to the property investor Antonelliana in 1988. He sold it to the French investor Patrick Perrin. The company, redesigned in 2003, was founded in 2002 by Coopsette soc. coop, which also bought the area. Construction began in 2006 and the sales office was opened in 2008. In the course of the first real estate and financial crisis, the company had massive sales problems in 2009; consequently the project was taken over into the separate subsidiary Campione del Garda SpA . The plan was changed in 2010, the target group was redefined and the price of the residential units under construction was reduced. The construction site was closed in May 2011.
The land belonging to the investor Coopsette / Campione del Garda SpA was confiscated in July 2013 after allegations of abuse of office, bribery and illegal land allocation became known. Approx. 14 hectares and 300 residential units were affected. These were released again in August. The project developer Coopsette filed for bankruptcy in October 2015.
An official sailing base of the FIV ( Federazione Italiana Vela ) with an affiliated association hotel has recently been completed in the area of the former campsite . Public bathing / surfing is actually no longer possible due to a lack of access. Over 50% of the Campione lake shore is no longer accessible to the public, the rest is occupied by piers or cannot be used due to the bank protection. Camping is no longer possible. Most of the apartments, which are about to be completed, are empty and the construction site has been idle since the measures were discontinued.
As of May 2016, nothing has changed in the structural situation and the prospects for the site. The new tunnel portal towards Riva del Garda has still not been released, the apartments that have been completed to date are empty, the car park is completely closed after a rock fall. In November 2014, around 15,000 m³ of rock loosened from the rock face and broke through three ceilings to the lowest level of the park. An imaginary red line runs through the village. Everything that lies behind the marketplace may not be built on and should not be entered for your own safety.
