Campofrío Food Group

The Campofrio Food Group is a Spanish food manufacturer headquartered in Madrid . With a turnover of around 2 billion euros, the group is the largest meat processor in Europe and one of the five largest in the world.

history

The Campofrio Food Group was formed in 2008 from the merger of the Spanish company Campofrío Alimentación SA with the French Groupe Smithfield SL. The US pork group Smithfield Foods had merged its European activities in Groupe Smithfield , after joining Sara Lee Foods Europe in 2006 , the European subsidiary of the American company Sara Lee .

In November 2013, Grupo Alfa- owned Mexican food manufacturer Sigma Alimentos submitted a $ 908 million bid to acquire Campofrio Food Group. In January 2014, Sigma concluded an agreement with the largest Chinese meat processor, Shuanghui International Holdings, for a temporary financial participation by Shuanghui in an indirect takeover of the Campofrio Group through the US pork company Smithfield Foods, which was acquired by Shuanghui in 2013 . Shuanghui's stake in Campofrio was sold to majority partner Sigma Alimentos in mid-2015.

The Campofrio Group consists of eight independently operating subsidiaries and two holdings. Almost 11,000 people are employed in a total of 30 production sites.
