Sara Lee Corporation was an American consumer goods manufacturer based in Downers Grove , Illinois .
history
The company was founded in 1939 as Consolidated Foods and operated under this name until 1985. From 2006 the group was radically rebuilt. Among other things, the separation from the textile division ( Playtex , Wonderbra ) was completed, which was split off as Hanesbrands . Since then, the business has been based on five pillars:
- Beverages (e.g. Douwe Egberts )
- Food ( Natreen )
- Meat Products ( Hillshire Farm , North America Only)
- Shoe Care (Kiwi), sold to SC Johnson & Son in 2011 .
- Household & body care ( Ambi Pur , Dusch das , Fissan Kids , Jōvan , Pitralon ) this division was largely sold to Unilever . The Ambi Pur brand was sold to Procter & Gamble in 2010 .
In 2006, Sara Lee sold its European meat business Sara Lee Foods Europe to the US meat company Smithfield Foods .
In September 2009 it was announced that the British-Dutch Unilever Corporation a binding offer in the amount of 1.275 billion euros has made for personal care division. The sale took place in 2010.
In 2010 the group employed around 41,000 people, after separating from the household and personal care division, only 21,000.
On July 4, 2012, Sara Lee was split into two independent companies. The legal successor Hillshire Brands is responsible for the North American meat activities and was taken over by Tyson Foods in 2014 . The global beverage business and the Natreen sweetener business were transferred to DE Master Blenders 1753, based in Amsterdam , which has been trading as Jacobs Douwe Egberts since July 1, 2015 .
Sara Lee in Germany
Sara Lee Deutschland GmbH was the German subsidiary of Sara Lee Corporation and had its head office in Mainz ( Lage ) (approx. 200 employees). Other locations were in Cologne (approx. 200 employees) and Mosbach (approx. 100 employees).
