Coordinates: 43 ° 41 ′ 37 ″  N , 6 ° 2 ′ 3 ″  E The Canal du Verdon is a formerdrinking water canal in Provence in the south of France. Between its inauguration in 1875 and its closure in the 1970s, it carried water from the Verdon to the city of Aix-en-Provence . Since then, this task has mainly beenfulfilledby the newer Canal de Provence .

Today part of the disused and partially ruined canal in the Verdon Gorge near Quinson can be explored on a hike. The canal leads here directly above the river through a narrow gorge and runs through numerous tunnels carved directly into the rock. These are not allowed to be entered as some of them are home to rare bat species. Instead, it is possible to hike a parallel path that originally served as access to the canal and is now open to tourists.
