Canardo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Canardo (from volume one to nine as Ein Case für Inspektor Canardo , then up to volume twenty as Inspector Canardo ) is a series of comics by the Belgian illustrator Benoît Sokal , whose stories have been published since 1978.

content

The melancholy duck Canardo ( canard , French for duck ), whose trademark is the faded trench coat and the cigarette butt in its beak, experiences criminal cases and adventures in often shabby milieus. He is sometimes a private detective or bodyguard, but never an inspector for the police.

publication

Canardo first appeared in the form of short stories in 1978 in the Belgian magazine (à suivre) , three years later the first album-long story was published by the Casterman publishing house, which has published the volumes to this day. In Germany the albums were first published by Carlsen Verlag under the title Ein Fall für Inspektor Canardo . Since volume 10 the series has changed to the publisher Schreiber & Leser and is published there under the series title Inspektor Canardo or since volume 21 as Canardo . In 2011, the publisher re-released the album A beautiful bottle as Canardo Spezial . For Free Comic Day on May 14, 2011, Schreiber & Leser gave away the fifth volume White Birds Die Quietly through comic dealers.

A first anthology was published with the title Canardo anthology I: The upright dog / The sign of Rasputin / A beautiful death in September 2011, others will follow irregularly.

Others

Amerzone - The Dark Legacy was published by Microïds in 1999 as Sokal's first project in the field of 3D graphic adventure . The computer game is related to the volume White Birds Die quietly , but differs in essential points. If in comics there are mixed creatures of animals and humans, in the game there are characters with a purely human appearance. Some characters were taken over, but Inspector Canardo was omitted. Instead, the player himself becomes active in the role of a journalist. The comic also puts more emphasis on the struggle for political power; Crime, corruption and debauchery are presented extensively, whereas the game manages without violent scenes.

Sokal's former production company White Birds Productions had the company logo depicted as on the cover picture of the Canardo album White Birds Die quiet Vögel.
