White Birds Productions was a French video game developer studio.
history
White Birds was founded in August 2003 by Benoît Sokal , Olivier Fontenay, Jean-Philippe Messian and Michel Bams. All four had previously worked at Microïds and there u. a. participated in the adventures Amerzone , Syberia and Syberia II . The reason for the termination at Microïds was that the four founders saw their creative freedom restricted and wanted to work out their artistic ideas without necessarily being committed to the field of computer games. Joinville-le-Pont was the location of the new studio; 30 people were employed there. In addition to computer games, the company also produced the four-volume comic series Paradise , written by Sokal and drawn by Brice Bingono and distributed by the Belgian publisher Casterman . Adventure Paradise , published in 2006, is based on the content of the comics. In 2008, White Birds ran into financial difficulties as the PC adventure market had shrunk. Two planned projects, the Aquarica, conceived by Sokal and François Schuiten as an animated film as well as a computer game, and a successor to Sinking Island , were discontinued and the company concentrated on artistically less demanding but lucrative games for the Nintendo DS . At the end of 2010, the company finally got into financial difficulties and had to be closed despite recently successfully launched iOS titles.
