Johan II van der Leede
Johan II (van Arkel) van der Leede (approx. 1270 in Beusichem ; † August 16, 1304 ) was a Dutch nobleman from the family of the Lords of Arkel . He held the title of Lords of Polsbroek and was the last of Mr Ter Leede .
Johan may have been a grandson or nephew of Johan I. van der Leede . He had an older brother named Herbaren van der Leede, Ambachtsherr von Haastrecht ; Both of their parents could not yet be recorded genealogically.
In a document he appeared in 1286 as a lender of 2,000 guilders to Gijsbrecht IV. Van Amstel . In 1288 Johan was one of the initiators of the reconciliation between Count Floris V of Holland and Herman VI. van Woerdern .
In 1302 he supported Johann van Avesnes , Count of Hainaut, efforts to preserve the inheritance of the county of Holland. Through Johan's influence, the city of Schoonhoven sided with the Count of Hainaut. In 1304 he entered Flemish service under Jan van Renesse . Johan drowned in a retreat in a dispute with the Dutch party. After Johan's death, the glory of Ter Leede returned to the count as a settled fief, who passed it to Johan III the following year . (from the second house of the Arkles) to the main tribe of the Van Arkels.
