Jan van Renesse
Jan van Renesse († 1304 ) was a Dutch nobleman and lord of Moermond Castle in what is now Renesse on Schouwen-Duiveland , Zeeland , the Netherlands.
Jan van Renesse led the Flemish anti-Dutch party in Zeeland together with Wolfert van Borselen in the 13th century . At the beginning of his reign, Count Jan I of Holland was still under the influence of Jan van Renesse. During the so-called Guldensporenslag van Renesse stood on the side of the Flemings and in 1304 penetrated deep into Zeeland and Dutch territory. In the Battle of Zierikzee , the Flemish party was decisively defeated and Jan van Renesse drowned while fleeing in a pond near Beusichem . The possessions of Jan van Renesse, who had previously been accused of infidelity , went to Witte van Haamstede .
