from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johan I. (van Arkel) van der Leede (* 1205 ; † after 1255 ) was a Dutch nobleman from the family of the gentlemen van Arkel . He held the titles of Herr von Schoonhoven , Herr von Polsbroek and Herr Ter Leede .

Johan was the son of Floris Herbaren van der Leede and Asekijn van Schoonhoven. From his older brother Herbaren II. Van der Leede van Arkel he inherited the splendors Ter Leede and Polsbroek, via his mother that of Schoonhoven. He was mentioned in a document in 1247 as Lord von Schonhooven; he gave the residents of the former village of Schoonhoven the right to build a harbor. He had a castle built for himself. In the same year he signed a contract with the city of Dordrecht . He enfeoffed his son-in-law Frederik, Herr von Zevender , with estates northeast of the village. Johan was married to a still unknown noble lady with whom he had the daughter Jutta van der Leede. She was married to a Count of Tecklenburg or a Count of Bentheim .
