Cani (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cani , also called the mas , was a measure of area in Pondichéry . The acreage measure was divided into the small and large cani. It was used in the salt flats of French India . These two canis are to be distinguished from the field measure Cani or Mas. The Alam was regionally dependent on the number of patties, the small basins for salt. One often added 20, 30, 40, 50 (and so on) patties to an alam.

  • 1 Cani (large) = 4 Alames (5 Alanes) = 59.23012 Ar
  • 1 Cani (small) = 53.51025 Ar
