The Canon PowerShot S100 is a digital compact camera from the Japanese camera manufacturer Canon and was announced on September 15, 2011 as the successor to the Canon PowerShot S95 and has been available since the beginning of 2012. It is the first camera to have the new DIGIC-5 processor, which is said to have better performance values and significantly reduced noise in the high ISO range.

technical features

The models of the PowerShot-S series are generally considered high-end or prosumer products because of their extensive equipment, the sensor, which is larger than average for compact cameras, and the support of the RAW format. In contrast to the S95, the S100 also allows video recordings in Full HD and, unlike its predecessor, now uses a CMOS sensor. In addition, the focal length in the wide-angle range has been improved from 28 to 24 mm, while in the telephoto range there are now 120 instead of 105 mm (each equivalent to a small image).

As a new equipment feature, the S100 has a GPS receiver for the first time , which allows location information to be recorded and the route to be recorded even when it is switched off.

Related cameras

Traditionally, the S-series is very similar to the G-series from Canon, as the current model shares the same sensor and, apart from the missing hot shoe, the models of the S-series are almost identical in terms of functionality and features, albeit with much smaller features Housing and lower price.

A slightly redesigned successor, the Canon Powershot S110, has been available since 2012.
